U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the United States has “just about” ended the pause in intelligence sharing with Ukraine, and that he expects to sign a mineral agreement during planned upcoming talks with Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia.
Asked by reporters whether he would consider ending such a pause, Trump replied: “We just about have.”
Trump said that they wanted to do everything they could to get Ukraine to take the situation seriously and do something. He explained that Ukraine didn’t have the cards, and neither did Russia, and that a deal had to be made to stop the killing. He called it a senseless war and stated that they would stop it.
He also expressed optimism about the talks scheduled for March 11 in Saudi Arabia, saying that they would get good results there. He mentioned that there would be a variety of talks with many good people involved, and he believed Ukraine would be fine and Russia would cooperate. He added that there could be some very big developments that week.
Trump said that Ukraine would sign the minerals deal, but noted that it was not showing the desire for peace to the extent that it should. He added that while Ukraine would sign the deal, he wanted them to show that they wanted peace. He explained that they hadn’t shown it to the extent they should at that moment, but he believed they would, and that it would become apparent over the next two or three days. He concluded by saying that ultimately, they should have peace.
As reported, on March 5, the Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), John Ratcliffe, stated that the U.S. had suspended the supply of weapons and intelligence to Ukraine. According to him, this decision was made following the meeting between the Presidents of Ukraine and the United States, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump, in the Oval Office of the White House.
